Join Toronto filmmaker Jade Yurich for a high-energy workshop designed to help actors discover their unique comedic strengths and develop the skills needed to bring humour to life on screen.
Through improv, sketch creation, scene work, character exploration, and performance exercises, participants will learn how to make bold choices, trust their instincts, and find the truth behind great comedy.
This is a hands-on workshop, so participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or notebook as they'll be actively creating and performing original material throughout the day.
Participants will explore:
-Comedic timing and delivery
-Improv, character development, and scene work
-Writing and performing original comedy sketches
-Stand-up riffing, one-liners, and topical joke writing
-Collaborative writing and performance exercises in pairs and groups
-Comedy for film and camera
-Creating authentic and memorable performances
-Confidence, spontaneity, and playfulness
-Taking risks and making stronger acting choices
Throughout the workshop, actors will write short sketches, create characters, perform scenes, experiment with improvisation, and develop material that can be cast and performed within the class. The focus is not on becoming a writer, but on understanding how comedy is built so actors can bring more creativity, confidence, and originality to their performances.
